About the Florida Public Defender Association (FPDA)

The Florida Public Defender Association (FPDA) is a private nonprofit organization that supports Public Defenders throughout the state. Our members include 20 elected Public Defenders and approximately 2,000 employees working in Public Defender offices across Florida. For membership information click here

Our mission is to help Public Defenders fulfill their constitutional duty of ensuring that everyone has equal access to justice, regardless of their ability to pay for a lawyer. We do this by providing statewide training, coordination, legislative advocacy and support to all Florida Public Defenders Offices.

The FPDA does not provide legal representation or legal advice to individuals. In addition, the FPDA does not manage, supervise or control how Public Defender Offices are run.

  • We cannot provide legal assistance or answer case-related inquiries. If you have a legal question or need assistance with a case where a Public Defender was appointed to represent you, you should contact that Public Defender’s office directly.
  • Each Public Defender is an elected official and operates their office independently.
  • If you have questions or concerns about a specific case, contact the Public Defenders Office in that circuit. For a list of Public Defender offices click here.
